Adding users with Spinitron
If your station uses Spinitron, your DJs come into Creek from Spinitron. Here's how to add a new DJ, how to add someone who isn't a DJ, and what to do when something doesn't work.
Adding a DJ
- Add the DJ in Spinitron, and attach them to a show. Spinitron only shares DJs who are on a show, so a DJ without a show won't come into Creek.
- Import them into Creek. In Creek Studio, go to People (called Accounts in the menu) and click Sync Spinitron, then Sync now. Or just wait. Creek imports from Spinitron every night at midnight in your station's time zone. The same import is in Settings → Spinitron and on the Schedule page.
- Help them sign in. Spinitron doesn't share email addresses with Creek, so a new DJ usually has no email address in Creek yet. There are two ways in.
- Send them your Creek sign-in page,
https://your-station.studio.creek.org. They click Connect your Spinitron account, find their DJ name or their show, confirm it in Spinitron, and choose their own email and password. - Or open their user page in Creek and click Send invite. If they have no email address yet, Creek asks you for it first, saves it to their account and sends the invite.
- Send them your Creek sign-in page,
Every DJ can connect
Any DJ with a Spinitron account can use Connect your Spinitron account on the sign-in page to get into Creek and their audio archives. You don't need to send them anything else.
Adding someone who isn't a DJ
Some people shouldn't have a Spinitron account, like staff members or volunteers. Add them straight into Creek.
- Go to People and click Create New.
- Fill in their name, email address and a password.
- Under Permissions, tick Manage Broadcasts if they need every broadcast. That lets them open any broadcast and download its audio.
- Click Save. Then, to let them know, click Send invite on their user page.
Don't add a Spinitron DJ this way. The import matches DJs by their Spinitron profile, so it would make a second account for them.
Troubleshooting
A DJ has no email address
That's normal for DJs from Spinitron. They can click Connect your Spinitron account on the sign-in page and choose their own. Or open their user page in Creek, click Send invite, and enter their address when Creek asks for it.
The email address in Creek is wrong
When Creek first imports a DJ, it copies the public email from their Spinitron profile if there is one. If that address is old or wrong, the DJ can't reset their password with their real one. Connect your Spinitron account shows them the start of the address on file, but it never replaces an address that's already there. Changing it in Spinitron doesn't help either, because Creek only copies it into an empty account.
A manager can fix it in Creek.
- Open the DJ's user page.
- Change the email address and click Save.
- Click Send invite.
A DJ isn't showing up in Creek
- Make sure they're attached to a show in Spinitron. Spinitron doesn't share DJs who aren't on a show.
- Then click Sync Spinitron on the People page, or wait for the nightly import at midnight.
- If their Spinitron profile has no DJ name, they're listed as "DJ for" their show. On the sign-in page, they can search for their show's name to find themselves.
